What is the Maximum Discharge Rate of Ni-MH Batteries?

Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries are generally not suitable for high-rate charging and discharging, but they are widely used in model toys and electric tools and are safer to use than lithium batteries. The NiMh battery can usually discharge with a maximum 3C rate, but Grepow's NiMh batteries can achieve the rate of a maximum of 15C.

What are NiMh batteries?

The Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery is an improvement from nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries as it replaces cadmium with a metal that can absorb hydrogen. NiMH batteries can provide higher capacity, have less obvious memory effect, and be more environmentally friendly.

Maximum 15C discharge rate NiMh batteries

In general, there are three types of discharge rate of NiMh batteries:

LP (Low Power): Medium discharge rate: normally 5C discharge rate
HP (High Power): High discharge rate: normally 10C discharge rate
UP (Ultra Power): Normally 10C or 30A discharge rate, up to maximum 15C rate discharge

High-discharge rate NiMh batteries can be used in applications that require higher power, such as radio control cars, toys, power tools (e.g. electric drill, saws, angle grinders, etc.), and some medical devices.
